So I guess even Martians can get sent to the pokey, eh?

Everyone’s favorite ‘goblin’ rapper, Lil Wayne, pulled a 360 today and pled guilty to felony attempted gun possession. Weezy F. Baby now faces a mandatory one year jail sentence after originally pleading non-guilty to a charge of illegal gun possession, which would have landed him three and a half years. Good call.

While this is slightly less criminal than the year and a day given to T.I.P. (which is T.I.’s crazed gun wielding alter-ego, if you recall), it’s probably more shocking since Lil Wayne is arguably the most popular U.S. artist right now. Note: the last part of that sentence is the even bigger shocker to me. In case you didn’t give an “F” about Wayne back in 2007 or don't remember, he was arrested after his tour bus was pulled over and there was a .40 caliber semi-automatic just cold chillen - loaded. Oh and clouds of smoke rushing out of the doors and windows also didn’t help the cause. This was coincidentally while he was en route to his first headlining concert in NYC – and like 17 piercings and 21 tattoos ago. Before he became the rock star many people love today.

I can’t help but wonder if he didn’t wish it was “Mrs. Officer” pulling him over instead. Obviously that ol’ Weezy charm wasn’t flying in this particular instance. Still, there’s nothing to worry about. I just saw a new T.I. video the other day, the second since he was locked up. He seems to be doing just fine. Tupac went in for 11 months and came out a superstar back in ‘95. (By the way, check out Pac’s Wikipedia page and peep the statue that serves as the main pic. Doesn’t he look like a figure from the Revolutionary War? Did you just get an image of George Washington and his boys crossing the Delaware listening to “Hit Em Up”, or is that just me?)

Anyway, Wayne will get sentenced in February, enough time to shoot a bunch of videos for this Rebirth album to flood the airwaves in 2010. By the time he gets out on the famed “good behavior”, it’ll be Christmas and all will be right with the world again. Hurry home, Weezy F., hurry home.

P.S. – Love MTV’s reporting of the situation which included vital information such as: “Wayne had black jeans, a gray coat, white T-shirt and blue Chucks.” Geez Dwayne, couldn’t hurt you to put a suit on?
